The Fair - An Overview
The
Smart Start Innovation Fair is here to reward inventors and innovators
for their creativity, to help bring their dreams closer to reality and to
promote entrepreneurship and innovation in
Ontario
and
Canada
.
A one day event, the fair is about creating opportunities for
professors to collaborate with entrepreneurship students to commercialize
inventions and ideas in a structured and supportive manner. It will start with poster presentations
where professors and students meet and form teams, followed by an
elevator pitch competition. Over
the next year, winning teams will work through the MEEI and MBET programs
to create businesses that will take the IP to market.
$50,000
of prize money will be given out to inventors who are faculty at a
university or college, who work with entrepreneurship students that they
meet at the fair.
Participants
will be rewarded for the commercial viability of their technologies. Over the course of the following year,
participants will develop business plans around those technologies in
preparation to take those technologies to market.
Spaces are limited, so make sure to register early.
Faculty and professors are encouraged to register online before October 1, 2007.
